Family Protection Lobby is a 501c4, this differs from their associated organization Association of Maryland Families which is a 501c3. From my phone conversation with the director, this is an important distinction when it comes to lobbying in Annapolis, but I wasn't able to fully understand the separation of the two organizations. Douglas P. Stiegler is the executive director for both organizations.
January 3, 2003: In response to Governor Glendening's request that Maryland newspapers print same-sex union announcements, Douglas P. Stiegler says, "Good grief. It would do Maryland's families much better if Governor Glendening would just go away and not continue to harass families of Maryland." It seems that Stiegler is not a strong supporter of the democratic governor and the governor's support of rights for all people (regardless of sexual orientation).
