City of Light
novel by Lauren Belfer
Set in Buffalo, New york in 1901. Niagara Falls is being tapped for hydroelectric power, the World's Faire Exhibition is being constructed, and politics are changing. Louisa Barrett is the head mistress of school for girls and is working toward offering women something more in life than just marriage. She's bound by the societal restraints of high society and the secrets that she can't escape.
The novel is full of twists and turns and suspicion. It paints a picture of high society in a time of change in American history. Belfer pulls you in with a soft seduction of words and soon you're bound until the end.
Spectacular work of fiction.
